Black Stars: Coach Otto Addo Needs To Add Key Players As World Cup Gets Closer

For weeks, several media reports have linked some players to the Senior National team Black Stars of Ghana. Some of these players – who are of Ghanaian descent – decided at some point in time not to represent the West African country, but have opted to make themselves available now. Recent games played by Black Stars appear to have exposed the team, thereby making a strong case as to why Ghana needs those players. Is coach Otto Addo in dire need of those foreign players of Ghanaian origin?

The last four appearances by the Black Stars made deep revelations of how far the team could survive in the absence of some key individuals. In the game against Madagascar, the team did not lack quality as most players availed themselves for the Afcon qualifier. Though, Ghana failed to break the deadlock in the first half but that did pose too much of a problem since goal bound chances were carved in the first forty five minutes, which later resulted in goals in the second half. It was obvious from the onset that there is competition between and among players as they jostle for playing time.

Against Central African Republic, Otto Addo opted to hand playing time to players who have received consistent call ups but yet to prove their worth for team. This paved way for only four regular players to start the game as against known faces. There were instances where some players made marks while others failed to make an impact.

Black Stars later ventured into an international tournament in Japan, where Otto Addo was at an experimental position.

From the aforementioned matches, an obvious story of additional players ran through the lines, especially in some key areas. Ghana will require backup in upfront as few chances were converted. The arrival of Eddie Nketiah and to some extent Inaki Williams could be a major boost for the team in attacking opponents. Any other potent man who will guarantee goals is an extra ingredient for Black Stars.

Defenders rumored to be joining the team will be useful for the team. The manner in which the team conceded goals in their recent games makes an instant demand for defenders. Same story could be told of midfield.

As Ghana looks forward to making a name at the global football competition, it is compelling that Otto Addo and his colleagues put together a team which is efficient in all fronts.
