Popular NPP Member Boldly Reveals Bawumia Was Wrong About This, Read Details

A popular member of the ruling New Patriotic Party who also doubles as the minister of foreign affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway has boldly revealed an information which suggests that Vice President Dr. Bawumia was wrong about a statement he confidently made some months ago concerning Ghana card being an E-passport.

In February 2022, myjoyonline published news that revealed that the office of the Vice President has declared the Ghana card as an e-passport to some selected countries. Meanwhile, the minister for foreign affairs while answering questions in Parliament today, emphatically stated that the Ghana card is not recognized as an e-passport in any country.

The minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu asked Hon. Shirley if the Ghana card is now considered as a passport? Her answer is below.

“It is not. By its definition, it is not. The GhanaCard is not a replacement to our current biometric passport. GhanaCard may serve as optional travel document to be used in tandem with our biometric passport. At the moment, the GhanaCard cannot be used for travel to other countries either within outside of ECOWAS as that will require bilateral agreement with countries for their authorities to accept the card as travel document. The Ministry is in active discussion with ECOWAS member states and our bilateral partners to achieve this.” Hon. Shirley boldly revealed this on the floor of Parliament.

Do you think that Bawumia was just wrong or he actually lied to the people of Ghana on Ghana card becoming e-passport??
