Is Ghanaian politics all about amassing wealth?

One major issue that encourages a lot of people to go into politics is the ease with which they can acquire wealth within short periods. They make it look easy. They make it look like joining politics is all about making money. It is not about serving the people. We will never make any positive progress if all there is to politics is about making wealth through dubious means. Why am I saying this?

The supposed will of late Sir John caused a massive uproar in this country. Having all these properties is not the issue at all. The during within which he supposedly acquired all these properties is mind-blowing. He was appointed as the CEO of the forestry commission 3 years before his death and it was within this period that he was alleged to have acquired those properties. Even some of his party members were stunned. Obiri Boahen expressed his disappointment in the whole saga.

Sir John’s case is just one of them. Some of these politicians have been able to acquire huge properties after their party came into power. It is a worrying trend that must be stopped now before it gets out of hand. Most politicians are now seeking office not to serve the people that vote for them. We are treading on a dangerous path.
