Honestly, African music has long been a global phenomenon even before the last two centuries. But currently, there has been a facelift and most countries that were previously known as musical superpowers in the region have lost their titles to others.
1. Nigeria
Nigeria has one of the largest music industries in Africa, producing artists like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tekno and many more. The country has also produced some other great artists such as Adele, Wizkid and Patoranking. Nigeria has produced some of the most influential artists in African music history King Sunny Ade and Fela Kuti.
2. South Africa
South Africa’s music industry is growing by leaps and bounds with artists like AKA and Cassper Nyovest making waves in the game. The country has also produced greats like Brenda Fassie and Lira who were both hugely popular in their time.
3. Ghana
Big names such as Sarkodie and Shatta wale are dominating not just within Ghana but all across West Africa. Ghana is not just about these two superstars but other young rappers are also coming up with their sounds, making Ghana one of the top-ranking countries in Africa.
Most of these artists have been able to sustain their popularity over the years, which is a testament to their talent and consistency in releasing quality music.
4. Congo
Cameroon has famous rappers such as Fally Ipupa and Jovi who have made a name for themselves not just within Cameroon but also all across Africa and Europe through various songs that they released over the years Mbongo Zaka and Même Pas Fatigu.
