Brain fog results from poor sleep. The brain is the only organ that cannot clean itself when we are awake.
If we miss sleep, our heads feel the pressure from the built-up wastes that don’t get removed, our memory is decreased and our logic is hampered because wastes that should have been cleaned out during sleep interfere with neurons and synapses that produce thoughts.
Other organs get cleaned of wastes when we are awake. When we pee we discard wastes that blood removes from every cell in our body. But the brain swells when active and shrinks as we sleep, so good blood flow and thus cleaning occur when we sleep.
We also enhance our memories during sleep. Different areas of the brain normally have specific functions, such as sight and images, sounds, smells, etc. We link the various areas more strongly during sleep to enhance memories.
During a long night of good sleep our brain cells reinforce what we did recently by storing, linking and organizing memories for good long-term recall. The links are called synapses; they grow best when we get good sleep and they make linkages more efficient and direct, similar to defragging a PC.
