The Ashanti Tribe Who Left 322 Years Ago To Cote D’Ivoire But Still Hold Allegiance With Otumfour

The people of the BAOULE have a long history from the Ashanti Region in Ghana. Their ancestors migrated from Asante in the year 1720 (322 Years today) following a family dispute between a faction of the Oyoko Adako Abusua, and the Oyoko Abusua of Kumase, during the reign of Asantehene Opoku Ware I

Otumfuo Asantehene sent a high powered delegation of Chiefs and people, led by Barima Ogyeaboɔ Amankwaa Adunan II, the Chief of Kuntanase and elders of Nsuta to represent Asantehene, and Asanteman on the death of Nanan Bédié Koffi Marcelin.

The dispute resulted in Nana Abena Pokua, leading some of the Oyoko Adako family members out of Asante. They crossed the KOME (COMOE) River, and established the BAWLE Asante Kingdom. It later became part of the French Colony of Ivory Coast.

The first President of the Ivory Coast Nana Félix Houphouët-Boigny (Boahene), was the reigning Baoule King, as well as the President of the Nation. Currently, Nsuta has no Omanhene, after the death of the Chief of Nsuta. He would have led the delegation. Like Ogyeaboɔ Kuntanasehene, the Baoule people are members of the ƆYOKO Abusua (Ɔyoko Adakɔ).

We console President Henri Konan Bédiè, and his family .
