Stop The Commissioning, It Won’t Bring Food On Our Table: Ghanaians Openly Shows Great Disapproval

Ghanaians have shown great disapproval over a newly commissioned one hundred (100) mercury-free gold processing equipment, commonly referred to as Gold Katcha, at a ceremony held at the Independence Square, in Accra today.

As the name suggests, it is equipment that extracts gold from the ore without the use of mercury, which has been the practice for several decades.

Though the equipment can recover over ninety percent (90%) of gold from the ore, and, therefore, gives small-scale miners much more gold than they would have obtained from the traditional method of using mercury, Ghanaians believe this won’t bring direct food on their table each blessed day.

The lamentations of Ghanaians on this initiative have caught my attention, from your point of judgment what do you think about these requiems of Ghanaians?

Below are worrying comments from Ghanaians:

• Please Sir still school feeding Caterers have not been paid for past two terms which are the third term and first term because of that the children have not been given food for four weeks because the Caterers are saying they don’t have money to cook.

• Does it mean our lands and water bodies will no longer be destroyed because of this mercury-free equipment I guess not, forests will be cleared, pits will be dug and streams and rivers will continue to be used for washing out the soils regardless of the mercury-free machines.

• Mr commissioner, so are you happy with the state of the country now? Are you happy when you use the motorway How do you feel when your workers or staff go through traffic on the Afienya-Tema road just to get to work and back on daily basics?
