John Mahama as seen in many of his recent activities is only coming back to continue what he could not finish. People have reacted to this comeback and how he has become so interested in coming back to enjoy his time on the seat that has been snatched from him. In the history of Ghana, presidents who led the country had the privilege to finish their full terms in office before they left. And this was accompanied with voting out the party in power entirely. When a president is allowed to enjoy the 8 years he was given, he and his party enjoy this privilege. And the people of Ghana switch entirely to a new government under a new party.
But this is different in the case of Mahama, he led the party, lost his seat for 8 years and is coming back again to make history as described by him and the supporters of he national democratic congress. Note that this discussion which was followed on a Twitter space with hundreds of Ghanaian youth this evening and a few celebrities is only opinions from concerned Ghanaians based on their current experiences. According to these discussions, Mahama might not be the best candidate for Ghanaians as a president.
Most of the concerns were personal and should be treated as such. For many who likened this to the leadership of Nana Addo, they revealed that the first four years of Nana Addo was okay to some point because he was interested in another four years.
And this according to them is similar to Mahama who can now lead the country for only four years after exhausting a first term. For many, he will not take matters as serious as he should because of these reasons. Not to say they are entirely right, the same discussion was aired recently by Good News Ghana host, Kelvin Taylor who compared Mahama to Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria. In this case, Goodluck stepped down because he will be allowed to rule for just one term and will not be the best decision for APC party because the next elections will favor their strongest opposition and not them.
