The terrorists attacked the Catholic Church of St. Francis in Owo, Ondo State, southwest Nigeria.
Many worshipers were reportedly killed and several others injured in an explosion at a church near the King Olowo Palace.
At least 50 dead bodies have been removed from the church, according to local sources, with many victims lying in Owo Federal Hospital for medical treatment.
They explained that the church members had been caught unnoticed and said there could be more casualties as some of the pilgrims who were taken to hospital had died.
The gunmen also used explosives inside the church building, sources said, but said most people were hit by gun bullets.
The perpetrators are said to have fled the scene soon after the crime happened, leaving many people dead in the pool of their blood.
Several bloodied bodies were seen in the church in the video shared around on social media.
