“Al Ahly Suffered Because of Home Disadvantage” – Ex-Black Stars Forward

Former Al Ahly Player, Felix Aboagye insists his former team lost to Wydad Athletico Club in the final of the CAF Champions League due to the home ground venue.

Al Ahly succumbed to two goals from WAC through Zouheir El-Moutaraji in the first and second half respectively to win their third CAF Champions League trophy and the former player believes the home and venue support obtained from fans played a key role in the triumph. “In the first place, Al Ahly were so much concerned about the venue of the finals which was played at the home grounds of Wydad Athletico Club, which I think was not a good decision that CAF officials took. As a final, you need to play in neutral ground, but looking at the game yesterday, Wydad were excellent. They were fantastic and they played some exceptional football with great goals which I think Wydad deserved to win that match”.

Aboagye, believes in subsequent African competitions, his former side will become better in outcome of result. “Ahly were nowhere to be found yesterday in that match. I feel pity for them, because it was played in Wydad home grounds and the fans contributed massively to it win, which Ahly wouldn’t come into the game. Ahly is a great club, fantastic team.

They’ve won two time consecutively and they wanted to win the third time, unfortunately it didn’t happen. This must not demoralize them. Ahly, I know will come back strongly” he acknowledged.
