Isuzu Motors joins list of automobile giants to set up assembly plant in Ghana

Japanese Car manufacturer, Isuzu Motors has revealed plans of establishing an automobile assembling plant in Ghana.

The intention was communicated when a delegation from the company paid a courtesy call on the President, Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.

The delegation from Isuzu Motors, led by their South African president, Billy Tom paid the courtesy call on the Akufo-Addo to formally inform him that together with MAC Ghana, its local partner and authorized distributor of Isuzu vehicles in Ghana, the company is set to commence the local assembly of their vehicles soon.

The delegation also included associates of MAC Ghana – Ronor Motors, an indigenous Ghanaian automobile company, headed and run by Ghanaians.

President Akufo-Addo received the message with glee and indicated that “we have been very motivated about trying to establish a vibrant automobile sector of our economy. It led us to propagate and define an automobile policy which I have no doubt you are aware of, in order to be able to situate and provide you with the contest, both for fiscal, legal and every other details as to what it will mean to establish a plant or establish a facility here in Ghana”.

The head of the delegation from Isuzu Motors , Billy Tom affirmed the plans of his firm before the President.

“Our facility here in Ghana is our first venture outside the country as Isuzu Motors, South Africa. What we are doing is two things; it is intra-trade within Africa and secondly is to grow industries within the continent,” he said.

Already, Global Car Manufacturing giants Nissan, Volkswagen and Toyota have established assembling plants in the country.
