The Black Stars of Ghana has been dropping down the FIFA Men’s Ranking and it’s really sad. In 2006 during the Stephen Appiah era, Ghana eas ranked slightly higher than this. This could be a result of the recent drop in performance over the years.
Take 2015 when we lost the AFCON finals to Ivory Coast in the penalty shootouts. Take 2017 when we lost the 3rd position to Burkina Faso or even 2019 when we were eliminated in the round of 16 by Tunisia by penalties again. The straw that broke the camel’s back is just early this year when we were last in our group with just a point.
Ghana did manage to qualify for the World Cup by the away goal rule against Nigeria. This doesn’t mean the Nigeria National team is bad no it’s far from that, the Nigeria team is actually 2x better than the Ghana National team if you look at the rankings. Ghana is ranked 60th while Nigeria is ranked 30th meaning that the Super Eagles are two times ahead of Ghana in the ranking of the countries. Some African countries that were also above Ghana in the ranking are Senegal ranked 20th, Morocco ranked 24th, Egypt ranked 32nd, Tunisia is 35th, Cameroon is 37th, Algeria is 44th, Ivory Cast is 53rd and Burkina Faso is 56th. Ghana’s highest ranking in its history is 14th place.
