Ministry initiates contact with British High Commissioner/IGP to resolve dispute

Accra, June 01, GNA – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has initiated contact with both the British High Commissioner to Ghana and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to resolve the dispute between them.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, copied to the Ghana News Agency said the Ministry has noted with concern the intense public debate that has been generated between the IGP and the British High Commissioner in Accra.
It said in line with the general diplomatic practice of communicating with diplomatic missions, probably through direct engagement, the Ministry wishes to remain circumspect on its pronouncements on the matter.
“We have, therefore, initiated contact with both the British High Commissioner and the IGP to resolve the issue at stake,” it said.
“The Ministry wishes to underline its commitment to the strong historical bond between Ghana and the UK, which through the years, has been deepened among others, the exchange of high-level visits on both sides, as well as increased cooperation on trade, investment, and security.
“We take this opportunity to reaffirm the bond of friendship and cooperation between our two countries,” the statement said.
