Official: Elmina Sharks relegated from the Ghana Premier League

Bottom side Elmina Sharks has been relegated from the Ghana Premier League, GPL and will play Division One football next season.

Sharks who have amassed 22 points from the 31 matches they have played, cannot get out of the bottom three even if they win their remaining three games.

Their exit from the Ghanaian top-flight league, was confirmed on Sunday after losing 3-0 away to Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park, Berekum.

This has been a very difficult campaign for Sharks having struggled right from the start of the competition.

They have won just five of the 31 matches they have played this season, drawing seven times and losing 19 which is not a good return for a side that wants to stay up in the GPL.

Elmina Sharks have conceded 49 goals, the most by any side competing in the ongoing campaign and have scored 21 goals which is also the fewest in the competition.

The club will now have to plan for life in the DOL next season and hope to make a quick return back to the top-flight league.

With three matches to end the campaign, it is not clear which two sides will join Elmina Sharks to the second tier league next season.

WAFA, Techiman Eleven Wonders, Dreams FC, King Faisal Babes and Real Tamale United are all in the bracket of being relegated and, it will be interesting to see how the last few matches play out.
