A 22-year-old woman explains why her boyfriend does not want to meet her father

After finishing senior high school, Jennifer, 22, met her boyfriend, Augustine Amoako, in Akim in the Eastern region. She was working with her Auntie at the time, and she advised him that they should first meet her father before getting into a relationship, but he ignored her advice. The lady also stated that she couldn’t inform her Auntie about their relationship, but she went ahead and dated him without her Auntie’s knowledge.

Jennifer stated that she was a virgin when she began dating Amoako, sneaking out at night to see him, but a month later she became pregnant. When she told Amoako about the pregnancy, he accepted it and decided to look after her. Amoako told his parents about the pregnancy. They also advised him to supply her with whatever she required.

Amoako and his mother intended to complete the child’s naming ritual after she gave birth, but her Auntie advised him that until they meet her father first, they would not allow him to do so. Jennifer stated that she traveled to Kumasi to visit her father and that she has been there for almost three months, but Amoako has only paid them GHC300.

The lady stated that her father wishes to meet Amoako in order to discuss how they would marry, but he informed her that he is terrified of her father. According to Jennifer’s father, Samuel Ampomaa, his wife died in an accident when Jennifer was three years old. With the support of his sister, he was able to care for his daughter and she completed Senior High School.

The guy stated that he intended to send her daughter to Nursing school and had made all the necessary arrangements, but she went on to date Amoako and gave birth. The guy went on to say that he wants to see his son-in-law, but Amoako informed his daughter that he is terrified to meet him, but that he, too, wants to meet him before giving them his backing to marry and helping his daughter find a better career.
