NPP Western regional secretary position: I am competent enough to lead – Charles Cobbina

Contestant number four on the ballot for the upcoming election of a Western regional secretary for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Cobbina said he is competent enough to run the party if given the opportunity.

He has played down claims that he is the choice of chieftains within the party in the region for the position, insisting that he would not have come through the vetting process successfully to be endorsed to contest for the post.

“I will not be endorsed if I was not qualified; I will not be given the nod if I was not competent and I will not be certified if I was not the best candidate for the position”, Mr Cobbina told the local media ahead of the elections.

“If chieftains within the party are me, it means they will not look to bring in an incompetent and inexperienced figure at this crucial moment within the NPP when we need stalwarts to plan and manage affairs as we seek to win the next general elections in Ghana”, Mr Cobbina added.

Mr Cobbina has seen his stature grown sturdily within the Western region having conceived and initiated life-changing projects not only in politics and, is a two-star general in the party.

He is affectionately called Kempes, after the former Argentina FIFA World Cup winner, a name he earned on the football field playing the beautiful game in his formative years.

Kempes contends that he is the rightful person to be elected as secretary for the NPP in the Western region and that he is coming with a clean heart and will bring all his expertise and worldwide connections to work in the general interest of all.

Mr Cobbina is contesting for the position with three other candidates and, he is hopeful of a win when the regional elections are held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Appayin near Esiama in the Ellembele Constituency.
