Asante Kotoko’s GPL game today at Obuasi against AshGold has been postponed for security reasons

Today’s Ghana Premier League, GPL Matchday 29 game between Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold SC at Obuasi has been postponed the Ghana Football Association, GFA has announced.

This regional derby was due to go ahead at the Len Clay Stadium to complete the midweek thrills in the ongoing competition, but, this has been put on hold for the time being.

The GFA in a release posted on their media channels said, upon the advice of the Ghana Police Service after they had gathered intelligence report in the lead up to the encounter, it is prudent that they came out with this decision.

AshantiGold SC has been demoted to the Second Division League from next season after the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA found them deeply involved in match fixing and manipulation in their GPL game with Inter Allies FC last season at Obuasi.

The management and fans of the Miners have not been happy with this decision and, it had been rumoured that they were planning to stage a demonstration against the verdict and also against the GFA before, during and after their game with Asante Kotoko this afternoon should it have gone ahead.

The GFA also announced that a new date would be communicated to the two clubs later on when this fixture would be played.

Asante Kotoko lead the standing in the ongoing 2021/22 competition by eight points with six matches to play on their part as they chase a record extending 25th GPL title.
