“Don’t Judge Kotoko Striker by His First Season” – Ex-Hearts of Oak Striker

Ex-Ghana international, Prince Tagoe has defended the number of goals scored by Kotoko striker, Franck Etouga Mbella.

The Cameroonian import has scored 19 goals this season with seven of those coming from the penalty spot and 12 in open play. The 21-year-old has missed three spot kicks, broken ex-Kotoko striker Eric Bekoe’s 17 goal tally and is on the verge of smashing ex-Hearts of Oak striker, Ishmael Addo’s long standing 22 goal record. Mbella has however come under sharp criticism over the number of penalty kicks scored but Prince Tagoe believes he needs another season to make a bigger impact.

“I think he has done well but when you look at the current league we are playing, it’s not that very strong like our time. “I don’t think the goals that he is scoring is bad. “He is a very good striker and maybe this is just the first season, we should wait and see. “We don’t have to judge a player with just the first season, I think he is doing well, for that one you can’t take it from him, his finishing is good.

“But there is a whole lot of things that needs to be worked on in the premier league. “When those things are being worked on, we will get a very good competitive league and we will get a lot of sponsorships.” Prince Tagoe told Africa-foot.com. Franck Mbella’s blistering form has caught the eyes of Cameroon senior national team coach, Rigobert Song who has invited him in a provisional squad for the 2023 AFCON qualifier next month.
