Ghana’s next election is in the year 2024 and already political parties are gearing up in organising their parties for the battle ahead. This includes election of leaders at various levels of the parties.
However the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), whose leader and current Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, will not be contesting again as he has exceeded his two term mandate.
As his tenure expires on January 6, 2025, the race for a new flagbearer of the NPP has been lingering on as talks became intensive right after the 2020 elections.
Some of the names that have come up for the race in the NPP is former Attorney General and Railways Minister, Joe Ghartey, Former Energy Minister, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto. Others are Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and recently Mr. Kennedy Agyapong.
However there have been opinions of two leading candidates for the race being current Vice President H.E Dr. Bawumia and Trade Minister, Mr. Allan Kyeremanten. It was on this basis that a leading member of the party and MD of State Transport Company, Nana Akomea suggested Dr Bawumia and Allan Kyeremanten run together as Flagbearer and Running Mate.
However some NPP faithfuls have declared their favourite for the race and it seems one of such is Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye.
Dr. Okoe Boye who is a Physician by profession is one of the government spokespersons and communicator for his party. He was very instrumental at the peak of Covid in Ghana as he was on various platforms sharing knowledge on the disease because of his background as a Doctor.
He is the Former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku Constituency and former Deputy Minister of Health. He is also a former board chair of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and was recently appointed Chief Executive of National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

However in a recent post on his Facebook wall (link above), Dr. Okoe Boye posted a photo with Samira Bawumia and captioned it: My big sister, my friend, my future First Lady. With him, nothing is impossible.
This has however received reactions on social media as some believe he is creating enemies for himself and should have kept quiet. Others believed Samira Bawumia will never become second lady. Here are some of the reactions below in screenshots:
