Is 15cedis On 1000 cedis, What Will Break The Backs of Ghanaians? – Egyapa Mercer

Egyapa Mercer has finally spoken on e-levy. Here’s what he had to say on Good Morning Ghana;

Mr. Mahama told us when he was president that he doesn’t like to tax people but t was necessary because, by law, it was the way he could fix the problems Ghanaians are yearning for. We have found ourselves in a situation that, because of the energy sector payment, bank exercise cleanups, and covid, the economy has been downgraded.

So government looked at the tax handle and decided to tax some aspects of mobile transactions and banking transfers. I watched an interview granted by the president of the mobile money agents association and he said that a lot of education needs to go into the e-levy because obviously, almost 90% of all mobile money transactions are exempt.

So the talk about the e-levy being obnoxious and imposing hardship is not born out by fact on the ground. So why would Mr. Mahama who said it is these taxes that he needs to fix the country turn around to say these taxes are bad; the e-levy I mean.

15 nuisance taxes were abolished when we came into power and due to the issue of covid, some new taxes have been introduced and now e-levy has come. Is 15cedis on 1000 cedis what will break the backs of Ghanaians?

All I am saying is that, yes, there are difficulties but if you look at where this government has taken us from 2017 to 2019/2020 before covid struck, clearly
