The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) is the biggest and most significant annual entertainment event in Ghana. It is produced by leading event management firm Charterhouse, in collaboration with leading telecommunications network Vodafone and other partners.
This event is organized under the auspices of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
For over Twenty (20) years, the Ghana Music Awards scheme has grown into a Festival of Music and Entertainment that has gone beyond National boundaries to engulf the whole Continent and beyond.
Kidi wins Artiste of the Year Award at VGMA23
Dennis Nana Dwamena, better known on stage as KiDi, has won artiste of the year at the 23rd Vodafone Ghana Music Awards held at the Grande Arena of the International Conference Centre on Saturday(7 May).
The Afrobeat/Afropop artiste beat competition from King Promise, Kuami Eugen, Sarkodie, Black Sherif and Joe Mettle to walk home with the coveted prize.
Including Artiste of the Year award, Kidi won Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year (Touch It), Vodafone Most Popular Song (Touch It), Album of the Year (The Golden Boy) and the Afrobeats Artiste of the Year.
Considering the year under review for this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), KiDi deserved the plaque due to his unending works put in his talent and craft coupled with tour, collaborations, and promotion which increased his views and wider reach.
Accepting his award on the night, KiDi said “delay is not denial, Glory be to God. I want to thank MTN hitmaker for introducing me to Ghana. To the media, my fans, my friends, to my big boy Zane, to my mother, Ghana thank you so much.”
Although Black Sherif did not grab the ultimate award on the night, he took home the Best New Artiste award and the Hip-hop Song of the Year award as well.
However, most people believed that Black Sheriff was supposed to be the ultimate winner, considering his hit songs and features this year.
I wanted King Promise to win this Year’s Artiste of the Year award, but unfortunately, he didn’t.
