Our Parents Are Fed Up With Us- Unposted Newly Trained Teachers Cry Out

The Coalition of Unposted Trained Teachers are currently picketing at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters in Accra today, because they have not been issued their appointment letters nor been posted after completing college. The group, who completed colleges of Education more than two years ago, numbering over four hundreds were represented by sixty-four teachers at the GES head office to plead with the Director-General, Prof. Kwasi Opoku to heed to their plea.

Narrating their ideal to the 3news and monitored by Bricy Boateng, Madam Rebecca Akosua Bawa, the president of the coalition revealed that things are very hard for them ever since they completed college. She added that some of their colleagues cannot bear the shame at home.

“The reason we have come here to sleep is because we can’t bear the shame at home. Married couples are having issues at home because of unemployment. Those who don’t have anything to do, their parents are fed up with them. The shame in the community, the moment anybody sees that you are home whiles your colleagues are working, they think you have failed. Which is not so.” Madam Rebecca explained.

One of the aggrieved teachers who happened to be a married woman with tears running down her eyes shared her ordeal. She lamented that her husband is getting fed up with her due to her unemployment. She said, “ Last year I came here, the same thing. This year, I have come again. My husband alone cannot take up this burden. I am pleading with the authority to help us. My husband wants to divorce me because I’m always asking him for money.”

According to the president of the coalition, they are pleading with the authorities of GES and the Ministry of Education to issue appointments letters to them because they meet all the requirements necessary for postings. She said,“ We simply want the Ministry to come to our rescue because we’ve stayed home for more than two years. People have completed colleges just 2020, and they have been posted so as at now, we want our appointment letters.”

She continued,“ All sixty-four people, we have the photocopies of everything :certificates, license, NSS (National Service Scheme), College and our NTC (National Teaching Council) pass list. We have everything, that means that we qualify.
