CHE 2-2 WOL: Three Things We Observed From Chelsea’s Disappointing Draw at Home

Frustrating halftime but a brilliant two goals lead in the second half, Chelsea failed to protect such goals from Romelu Lukaku against Wolverhampton at Stamford Bridge as the visitors [Francisco Trinicao and Conor Coady] equalized without fear or panic.

A team led by Thomas Tuchel, here are three things we observed in such a disappointing draw today:

1. Lack of a dribbler

Today’s game shows clearly, that the ‘Blues’ still haven’t found Eden Hazard’s replacement despite several player purchases since his departure. Chelsea hardly gets inside Wolverampton’s box, as most of the shot attempts made were from outside the box and cross attempts inside the box.

2. Wrong Backup defender [Malang Sarr]

Bringing on Malang Sarr at the peak of Wolverhampton attackers and a goal to protect was a wrong move by the German tactician. Although he is a team player and deserves an equal opportunity like everyone else, here in the case, the fireworks of Wolves attackers require an experienced stopper, and he [Malang] doesn’t fit in such a category based on his performance this season. His appearance was more like a mirage on the team.

3. Unsteadiness

After putting two behind Bruno Lage’s men, Chelsea failed to create a steady environment. They appeared more confused, pressured, and unrest exposing their midfield and defense as Wolves progressed from their half. Mason Mount or Hakim Ziyech would have kept the visitors a bit focused on the defense rather than the attacking-phase ruling the chances of the draw.
