You Have Proven To Us That You Are Ignorant Of How E-Levy Operates- Pratt To Judges On E-Levy Case

The managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has taken a swipe at the Supreme Court Justices who presided on the injunction application on the e-levy hearing by the minority. Kwesi Pratt boldly declared that the Supreme Court Justices have publicly shown to Ghanaians that they have less knowledge about the operation of the e-levy.

He made that statement following the order from the Supreme Court to the Ghana Revenue Authority that they should keep the records of all deductions so that should the substantive case be heard and the e-levy bill passage be declared constitutionally null, then refund will be easily made. Kwesi Pratt gave a simple illustration and real-life application to prove how ignorant the Supreme Court Justices are.

“Look at why I am saying that these judges are ignorant of the operation of e-levy. Let us assume that some hypothetical Adwoa Mansa who lives in Hwidiem in the Ashanti, does not know Accra. Later, she gets a call that she needs to send GHc 200 to her relative in Accra who is very sick. So she is walking on the street of Accra and in search of a tabletop mobile money vendor to send some money to her relative. So if she finds one and later sends the money plus the payment of the elevy charges, what record can GRA keep which will reflect this transaction and secure her refund”, Kwesi Pratt explained.
