Sam George Reveals An E-levy By-Pass Method That Even The Deputy Finance Minister Doesn’t Know About

Sam George on Good Morning Ghana Show in addressing his little fight on Twitter with John Kumah revealed a secret by-pass to e-levy and claims that the deputy finance minister doesn’t know.

Here are his words:

“Having a merchant ID doesn’t make you tax-e-levy exempt. This is why you can go to a shop to make a transaction and you’ll still pay e-levy.”

“When you get a merchant sim card, it is given to you by a telco. The requirements for getting a merchant sim card do not include being tax compliant.”

“So, the exemption for GRA on e-levy is that you should be a taxpayer in good standing. But in getting a merchant ID, that is not a good standing and not enough.”

“You would go to a grocery store and you’ll meet people with merchant sims who haven’t registered with the registrar general.”

“So, you can make a payment to a merchant ID and still be charged e-levy. This is what our deputy finance minister doesn’t know.”

Do you get it now? If you are a taxpayer with good standing, you can register your registered merchant sim with GRA and you’ll be exempted from e-levy.

Thus, having a merchant sim alone is not enough.
