Ghanaian journalist Bridget Otoo has been trending on social media for the past few days. She has been trending because of some comments she made concerning the controversial e-levy. The avid NDC sympathisers lambasted the current government over their implementation of this levy. The e-levy implementation started over the weekend and has been fraught with so many challenges already. People are being charged for transactions beneath the daily maximum amount of 100 cedis.
It was in light of this that Bridget Otoo took to social media to share a screenshot of deductions made for a transaction she did. It was there that the attack dogs were unleashed on her. Many took offence to the date of the said transaction without taking their time to find out why it was so. Banking systems are configured in a way that it picks the next available working day if a transaction is done on a holiday. These attackers never took the time to verify something as simple as this.
One of her fierce critics Patrick Kwarteng Sarpong subsequently issued an apology to her. According to Bridget, the NPP’s communication team exhibited incompetence by failing to verify a simple message before attacking her. It only goes to show how their communication machinery is run. For their communication to break down because of her is a pity. They should channel their anger elsewhere. She is not the cause of their problems.
