Kwaku Azar – When Sir Jonah Warned Us Of The Culture Of Silence, We Sent Yaanom To Silence Him

Lawyer and KPMG Professor in Accounting at the Fisher School of Accounting, University of Florida Stephen Kwaku Asare popularly known as Kwaku Azar has lamented on the fall in rank of press freedom in 2022. He said that Ghana silenced Sir Jonah when he warned us against the culture of silence.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, 3rd May 2022, he wrote;

Ghanafuo ranked 60 out of 180 on the world press freedom ranking in 2022. In 2021, we ranked 30 out of 180.When Sir Jonah warned us of the culture of silence, we sent Yaanom to silence him.

When the USfuo human rights group discussed the dangerous and unprecedented attacks on the media, Yaanom were quick to rubbish and silence them.

Now that the RSF has downgraded us, are we also going to silence them OR do serious introspection as to why these independent assessors keep saying the same thing?”

The comment of Kwaku Azar comes as a background to the fall in the global ranking of Ghana in press freedom. Ghana moved to to 60th position in 2022 a major decline from it’s previous position of 30 in 2021.
