The Cliques In The NPP Must End; We Need Competent People To Lead Us- Charles Bissue

Charles Cromwell Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue has charged members of the New Patriotic Party, particularly its leadership to put an end to the political cliques formed amongst them to control the affairs of the party. According to him, the clichés in the party are a reason, the party failed to protect its parliamentary ratio in terms of representation in the 8th parliament.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s political show; The Forum, Mr Bissue who is aspiring for the General Secretary-ship of the NPP argued that the political dynamics within the party have evolved and that delegates and general members at the grassroots have become critical of these groupings. He noted the losses the party experienced in the past election could be attributed to the general disaffection of party people to these political cliques and the rather poor show of partisanship and competence.

He continued that it would serve the party right if it learns from its wrongs from the 2020 election and prepare adequately for the 2024 election. With this he meant that the party should disband all forms of political cliques and allow for the election of competent executives who are committed to serving the interest of the party, particularly retaining power for 2024 and beyond.

“What happened to us in 2020 is a wake-up call for us, for the 2024 elections. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. If that hadn’t happened, we would have been complacent come 2024…then we would have revisited 2008.

“…and it’s all to do with cliques. Some of us are not looking out for the competent ones to do the job. We are looking for our friends to be there.”

In doing that, Mr Bissue said; “going into 2024, I believe that as a party, we have to do more because these are the things that cost us some seats in the past elections.”
