When you speak against men having multiple wives, this is the rebuttal people give, I am the one who married her.Â
When you make a case for women that if we condone cheating men, we should condone cheating women too, same response: who proposed to who?Â
Let’s subject this to some logical reasoning and see who primarily owes the other good behaviour.Â
She is a woman, she was living her life with little care for your own life (sometimes), then you found her, took interest in her and asked her to be your girlfriend and hopefully, a wife.
It was not easy for you, she dragged her feet while you put in all the effort to get her. You gave her assurances, promised to make her your priority and what not.Â
Then she gave in.Â
You went to her parents to inform them of your intention to marry their daughter. They asked you to prove your commitment symbolically to prove that you are willing to be the man you promised her to be.Â
You did as requested and took her in as a wife.
She was Regina Ansong, you Seth Galantulu. She put away Ansong to take the name Mrs Galantululu, edin fon sei.Â
Then in the course of the relationship/marriage, you cheat and when you get caught, your excuse is that you are the one who married her. Under what condition did you propose to her? Did she beg you to?Â
I’ve no problem with polygamy, I only think it will be fair if women are allowed to trigger same and most importantly, it should be on the table at the time of proposing so the woman/man is put in the known that s/he might be the first of many in future
People talk about the man taking care of the woman. How many men take 100% care of their wives in this century? Don’t most women contribute and yet do the house chores in addition? Don’t we have several women who take care of their men?Â
You who went begging for the reduction of the bride price think you bought someone’s daughter? How many men even foot 100% of the cost of the wedding? Don’t the women support almost every time? Some even take up a greater chunk of it. I think our role as men is overly overrated and the woman’s, criminally underrated.Â
Even the woman who does no formal work and contributes nothing financially plays an equal role as the man. You can’t put a price on keeping the home, it is as demanding as any other job we do as men.Â
Our generation needs to start thinking differently and start realising that marriage is a union of two adults of equal standing, equal importance and with equal stakes. When I cheat and my wife forgives me, I have to forgive her when she cheats too.Â
When it comes to who deserves a wider allowance for wrongs,s however, it has to be the woman, the man must have the ultimate responsibility to do right first before we even look at the woman’s actions
You who went begging now want to do things as you please? You moderners even go down on your knees to propose. So at what point did you assume the right to stand on her?Â
That assumption is not logical. Both men and women cheat, obviously, men cheat more. If a man is caught cheating, it should be treated as a woman is treated when she is caught cheating.Â
Before she accepted your proposal, several better people were knocking at her door, she accepted you because she thought you had sense.Â
Who even told us, men, that we do women favour with marriage?Â
