The recent circulating news that has undoubtedly raised lots of concerns amongst Ghanaians was when the Akufo Addo government was unexpectedly exposed again by another prominent NDC member over another Ghc 5.3 billion brouhaha.
Speaking in a recent interview on JoyNews, the renowned NDC member took the privilege to express his immense disappointment in the ruling government aside from revealing that, the NPP government seems to be providing double figures over the total expenditure on Free SHS even though it wasn’t supposed to be so.
“I have pursued this issue since 2021. The Minister’s response to the question I filed had indicated that the government had expended Ghc 7.62 billion in implementing the program over. I remember drawing the Minister’s attention to the fact that, his own 2020 budget review had captured Ghc 3.2 billion and so, I wondered how in just one year between 2020 and 2021, the expenditure of free SHS had ballooned from Ghc 3.2 billion to Ghc 7.62 billion. The information was given by the Vice President during his lecture where he stated on two different occasions that the total amount spent on the program between 2017 and 2021 was Ghc 5.3 billion. Therefore, I continue to ask why we have two sets of figures for the same government flagship program”, the prominent NDC member emphatically revealed.
