The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is coming under increasing pressure over the seeming disinterest of the police to investigate the fatal shooting incident that occurred on the premises of Nkroful Magistrate Court in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, which left one person killed and four others badly wounded and to hold any erring state security officers to account.
Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, has now filed a petition with the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to probe the tragic shooting of Andrews Donkor, a 35-year old man from Teleku-Bokazo.
The MP wants justice for the deceased. Donkor and other young people from Teleku-Bokazo had gathered on the premises of the Nkroful Magistrate Court to show solidarity with some illegal small-scale miners who had been caught mining in an old mine pit right in the concession of Adamus Resources Limited, a gold mining at Nkroful, when bullets started flying and he got hit.
Armah-Kofi Buah is asking the Commission to investigate the killing of Donkor and human rights violations in his constituency by police officers and soldiers attached to the Adamus Resources Limited.
He states in his petition that the people in the area are angry, depressed and devasted by the unlawful killing and want justice for the deceased.
The family of Donkor have suffered unimaginable pain, financial, psychological and emotional stress but the IGP and the Ghana Police Service are not interested in investigating the heart-breaking incident.
The Adamus Mining Resources has had a rocky relationship with the people in the mining operation area.
In late December last year, a physically-challenged illegal miner caught in the concession of the was doused in petrol and set ablaze by security personnel of the and he died of his severe burns.
