Puyi was the last emperor of China as the last and final Qing Dynasty monarch. He was born on February 7, 1906 and was given the courtesy name, Yaozhi. He became emperor at the age of two in 1908 but was forced to abdicate on February 12, 1912 during the Xinhai Revolution.

He was later made the ruler of the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo during World War II. He was made the Qing emperor briefly by the loyal general, Zhang Xun from July 1 to July 12, 1917 and was wedded to Empress Wanrong in 1922.

In 1924, he was expelled from the palace and became a refugee in Tianjin. He was taken by the Soviets to Chita in Siberia where he lived in sanitorium, an then later in Khabarovsk near the Chinese border, where he was treated well and allowed to keep some of his servants.

He spent his days praying as a prisoner and expected his servants to treat him as emperor by slapping them in the face when they displeased him. His wife, Wanrong died in 1946 but Puyi got to know in 1951 while still in prison.

He had never brushed his teeth or done any basic tasks in his life but had to do them himself while in prison and this subjected him to ridicule from the prisoners.

His health became to decline and died in Beijing of complications arising from kidney cancer and heart disease on October 17, 1967 at the age of sixty-one. His body was cremated and the ashes were placed at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery.

The Qing Dynasty was formally ended in 1912 by Xinhai Revolution and Sun Yat-sen succeeded Puyi as head of state through the office of Provisional President. The House of Aisin-Gioro was the clans name in Manchu.
