Raila Odinga is expected to leave the country today, 22nd April, for the United States (US). In his entourage will be top Azimio leaders the Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua.
As Odinga leaves for US, fresh details have emerged disclosing what will happen in Azimio while Raila will be away.
Sources have divulged that picking of the running mate for Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya will happen while Raila Odinga is in United States on an official duty which kicks off today till early May.
Sources say that picking Raila Odinga’s running mate while the presidential candidate is away will help ease the pressure on him. It also emerges that this will also avoid direct lobbying from interested parties.
Although the process of finding a suitable Azimio running mate will be undertaken in Raila Odinga’s absence, it has been established that his choice will also be put into consideration. This is because sources say that Raila will be the one to make the final determination.
“It is the view of the council that a small team be set up to look for a suitable candidate who will be Raila’s running mate. This will be done in his absence at least to ease pressure on him to announce his running mate,” sources told a local daily.
