After hours of consultations and negotiations, the ODM leader Raila Odinga has finally unveiled the Azimo-OKA lineup for Nairobi County.
In a press release on Friday afternoon, Raila stated that the Azimio gubernatorial candidate for Nairobi County will be Polycarp Igathe of the Jubilee party. He will therefore be deputized by Professor Philip Kaloki. The Women Representative post will be defended by Esther Passaris while the senatorial seat ticket will be given to Edwin Sifuna.
The most controversial part of it is that Tim Wanyonyi will now defend his Westland seat under ODM as Mr. Richard Ngatia steps down for a state appointment.
Earlier on Friday morning hours, Raila was locked in a serious meeting and negotiations with the Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Polycarp Igathe, and a host of many Western leaders. It is after this meeting that the list of this new lineup emerged.
Prior to that press release, there Tim Wanyonyi had dismissed any possibility of deputizing Igathe as was whispered across the political arena. It will now be interesting to see whether all parties involved in this whole process will agree with Raila’s final resolution.
Will Tim Wanyonyi accept the decision? Will he dismiss it and go as an independent candidate? Perhaps we should now wait and see.
