Arsenal are still not the team that Arteta envisioned when he took over in 2019. There’s a chance that two or three new signings could transform Arsenal into the dominant force Arteta desires for his team.
One of these reinforcements would be the acquisition of a midfielder. According to Kevin Campbell, if Arteta is looking for a midfielder who will be a hit at the Emirates, he should look no further than Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.
The Arsenal legend sees Luiz as the ideal partner for Thomas Partey in the Gunners’ midfield. Campbell responded when asked by Football Insiders’ Dylan Childs if Luiz is the player Arsenal needs to sign, saying,
“100 per cent.
“I think he’d be a great partner for Partney.
“You can see us struggling in midfield right now. [Mohamed] Elneny is not the answer. He will be gone at the end of the season.”
[Granit] Xhaka is our second best because he is experienced in that area, but I still have a question mark over him.
He went on to explain why the 23-year-old is the player Arsenal’s midfield craves:
“Douglas Luiz is hungry, young, and a good ballplayer. I think he could come in and do a really good job.”
