“Hey y’all! It’s me, Britney,” she began her impersonation, before attempting to replicate some of Brit’s notorious IG dancing videos and saying, “I bet you didn’t think I could do this.”
Chloe then moved on to some jokes about Britney’s recently dissolved conservatorship and the pregnancy announcement.
“Remember six months ago when everyone was like, ‘We need to get her out of this conservatorship, and now you’re like, ‘Someone’s still gonna check on her right?’” she said.
“Well, don’t worry, I’m finally free, and I’m having a baby! I just pray my baby is born happy, healthy, and with the power of attorney.”
All in all, pretty toothless satire — but, also, just the act of making fun of Britney in any context seems like a…choice, given the recent past and everything we know now.
The conversation around the doc was visible and seemingly inspired some sort of cultural shift when it comes to how female-identifying celebrities are scrutinized and mocked in the public sphere — but, given this latest SNL sketch, maybe that was wishful thinking. Who knows!
