Dunkwa-On-Offin: Over 2000 HIV/AIDs Cases Recorded Last Year

The Dunkwa Municipal Health Directorate in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality , Central region has recorded rise in HIV/AIDs cases in 2021.

From January to December last year, the Municipality recorded Two thousand and twenty one HIV/AIDs cases.

The Municipal Director of Health for Upper Denkyira East Municipality Dr. Daniel Acorlor disclosed this during the 2021 end-of-year performance review meeting held in Dunkwa-on-Offin.

He said, the statistics gathered indicate that last year 2021 a total of two thousand and twenty one HIV/ AIDS cases was recorded in the Municipality

He added that cases recorded among males and females are between the ages of zero to 50.

The prevalence rate for 2021 was 12.2 percent.

He however explained that unprotected sexual intercourse remained the main route for HIV new infection, multiple partner relationships and low uptake of Antiretroviral Therapy were also contributing factors to new HIV infection in the Municipality.

 

He finally appeal to NGOs, Individuals and other stakeholders to come to their aid to support the facilities with boreholes and medical equipment.
