The agitated lady from Refilwe, Tshwane, told the Daily Sun that her identification card said that she was born in 1962, which was causing her distress.
She complained that she was weary of being made fun of by people her own age, and that the situation had made her afraid to even celebrate her birthday because she felt embarrassed.
“I want to make it clear to the public that I am not a gogo, but rather a younger person who is still required to work to support her family.” I believe that the Department of Home Affairs has taken my life and job away from me. Despite the fact that I am still employed, my ID indicates that I am 60 years old, requiring me to take early retirement while I am still in my prime,” she said.
Kekulo said that she attempted to resolve the issue at the Lebowakgomo and Cullinan Home Affairs offices, but that authorities were unwilling to assist her.
“The agency needs to obtain data related to her application as part of the process of settling the situation,” said Siya Qoza, a spokesperson for Home Affairs.
“The department will get in contact with her as soon as it has completed its investigation.”
