President Ramaphosa has given a strong warning to those who are the cause of violence in the party.
The president has blamed the careless behavior of the ANC leadership that has seen many violent killings of members in KZN and the Eastern Cape. He briefed the leaders while visiting Mthatha in the Eastern Cape where he is chairing the party’s National Executive Committee, with its talks with the Provincial Executive Committee of the 2021 local government elections and evaluation. He urged all those behind this act of killing leaders to stop and if anyone is caught they will be dealt with harshly. This briefing comes after the recent violent shootings of two councilors. Ramaphosa says there is a growing trust deficit from citizens on the ANC.
Ramapo said that discipline in the African National Congress continues to be eroded, but the other worrying part is that violence has now become a method of resolving issues in the ANC. Members get beaten in the ANC meetings even female members are beaten by men in ANC meetings. Some get shot at, at meetings. Some get shot in their homes and so forth and this has to stop. And those that are involved in it need to be dealt with very very strongly. The leaders need to focus on credible leadership as part of its renewal project. This will include the formation of a commission of long-standing experienced comrades that are to build and unite the party.
This process of renewal but be taken by all comrades in the movement because renewal is the answer. The comrades have agreed in their governance and also in their that as they build their structures they will be able to do a better services delivery to the people. In the Eastern, Cape tensions rise at branch levels as they have been violent incidents already associated with branch meetings. These incidents were reported in Amathole, Alfred NZO, and Buffalo city regions in 2021. Sadly, the EC ANC has already dealt with challenges as some meetings erupted in violence.
As a meeting was taking place last year in June Fists we’re seen flying in the air at ward 7 in Buffalo City. During the fighting, Nokekethi Mavuso was badly beaten. She said they were in support of a new Ward candidate to replace the incumbent and that is the cause of the animosity. Ramaphosa said it is all about these elections the reason that leaders are beating each other. The councilors get beaten causing high tensions and leaders are not happy.
