Depression is a common and serious medical condition that has a negative impact on how you think and act. We don’t take depression seriously in the African community, and we don’t seek professional help to process and deal with our emotions. Understanding mental health is the first step toward determining why some of our country’s most famous and popular celebrities committed suicide.
What Is Depression? Depression causes feelings of sadness and a loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities. Depressive emotions can be triggered by financial difficulties, the loss of a close friend or family member, alcoholism, drug use, or a major mistake made that the person cannot seem to forgive themselves. Dealing with depression is difficult because even when a person is happy and attempting to be positive, they still have negative thoughts and emotions that they can’t shake, which leads to the person hating themselves because they can’t be happy even if they wanted to. That is why it is critical to consult with a professional because negative thoughts and feelings can become a burden over time.
Riky Rick (February 23, 2022)
In 2020, the award-winning rapper opened up about his battle with chronic depression following the death of his father on his podcast show, Lab Live. He claimed that he lost his father at a time when he needed him the most and that he couldn’t get over his father’s death. He also stated on Twitter, “You have to be strong to be in this industry because you will go through so much pain.” You came in with even more pain. This industry will amplify that pain. “
The warning signs were always there, but his cries were never heard or acknowledged, and Riky Rick committed suicide on February 23, 2022.
Patrick Shai (January 22, 2022)
Patrick Shai, a veteran actor, took a video of himself insulting Cassper Nyovest earlier this year. In the video, he challenged Cassper and used vulgar language, referring to the rapper’s mother. As a result, he received a lot of criticism from Cassper Nyovest and other social media users. Then, just a few days before his death, he publicly apologized to Cassper Nyovest, saying he regretted his actions and would accept the consequences.
And we had no idea how deeply this affected Patrick Shai; he clearly did not forgive himself and deeply regretted his actions, which led to his suicide due to depression.
