ANC’s 2022 elective conference will be one to remember as it will be tightly contested with several comrades gunning for the top positions.
President Cyril Ramaphosa who had a meeting with the Eastern Cape Provincial Executive Committee over this weekend, was touted as the perfect candidate for ANC presidency by the Eastern Cape Treasurer, Babalo Madikizela.
This however is being contested by Radical Economic Transformation forces who have since thrown several names to compete in this presidential race.
Ace Magashule, Zweli Mkhize, Lindiwe Sisulu, Malusi Gigaba, Supra Mahumapelo are some of the RET comrades expected to compete for top positions at the ANC elective conference in December.
So far eight comrades have raised their hands for the deputy president position. The incumbent, David Mabuza has already made it loud and clear that he is not hanging his political boots after his opponents had cited his health condition as a factor to consider before competing again.
David Mabuza however revealed that he is as fit as a fiddle and that his health is not a factor for him not to contest for his deputy president position.
Correctional Services and Justice minister, Ronald Lamola is also touted as another candidate to contest for the deputy president position. Earlier this year, Economic Freedom Fighters leader, Julius Malema however took swipe at Lamola stating that he want to skip ANC ranks because he is too ambitious.
ANC treasurer general, Paul Mashatile is the other candidate who is set to contest for the top position. Some provinces however have not conducted their provincial conferences and branches are yet to nominate their preferred candidates.
