KwaZulu-Natal police are on high alert because of rumours circulating on social media showing that there are individuals who want to loot Massmart stores tomorrow and on Sunday the 27th of February, this has got many people concerned about the circumstances that will lead to the looting because last time it was fueled by such rumours.
A letter from a SAPS management meeting who are investigating cases relate DS to looting and the July unrest which led to the destruction of infrastructure and jobs, people were left destitute and in debt because of what happened which in retrospect could have been easily prevented by simple things such as the government not doing anything.
The allegations are that the plan is to loot Game, Builder’s Warehouse, Builder’s Express, Makro, Rhino, Jumbo Cash & Carry. It is unclear if this is an attack on our society or not but it has a lot of people concerned about the way things are happening, KZN police will deploy police officers and necessary resources to curb such threat.
They say that they cannot discuss the investigation because that will compromise everything and they cannot afford that, but we can rest assured that they are up to the job. Massmart was told to prepare anyway despite the unverified rumours on social media showing potential unrest at retail outlets over the weekend.
South Africa cannot afford another situation because the country cannot be in a situation, where they are the theft of resources or the destruction of public infrastructure for the selfish reasons of the few.
Precautionary steps have been taken, but the rumours remain unverified and we should have that in mind because we do not want a situation where people are panic buying whatever resources they can get their hands on.
