Unfortunately South Africans may have to deal with looting and strikes, as well as road closures again this weekend after messages of such have been circulating online.
It’s believed that the “All Truck Drivers Forum” will be creating disruptive situations by blockading National roads and highways.
At the same time there are reports that there could be looting in MassMart stores like Game, Makro and builders express among others.
While there are plans in place to mitigate this issue, if last year’s unrest is anything to go by, South African citizens may need to protect themselves. Here’s how they can.

Guidelines to Protect Yourself :
First and foremost I ask that you constantly keep an eye out for updates on this situation and if it doesn’t dissipate, than you may want to cancel any plans you have to travel this weekend.
Keep your family at home, where it’s safest and enjoy a weekend in doors. However while there is no evidence that these groups will enter communities, if you live near highways or national roads you may want to also take steps to secure your community.
(Example of Protest)
Start by assembling or reassembling your neighborhood watch. Have people patrolling the area at all hours so that you can be informed of the situation periodically. Striking can also become violent, so if you have a legal personal weapon, make sure to have it ready for a worst case scenario. A scenario where you or your family is in danger.
However, I would like to make it clear that you have no right to attack someone or take there life unless you are in a life or death scenario. So while taking precautions do not be unnecessarily violent to protestors. Everyone has the right to protest for a better life.
