President Cyril Ramaphosa’s fight against corruption has once again been put to test after his allies in Limpopo province are rallying behind comrades who were involved in the VBS looting scandal for top positions.
The CR17 faction has chosen to support comrades criminally charged for the VBS looting scandal in a bid to close door for the comrades alleged to be aligned to the RET faction who want to contest in the Provincial conference set for June this year.
The ANC in Peter Mokaba region says chairperson of the ANC in Mopani Pule Shayi’s bid to challenge Stan Mathabatha for the ANC provincial chairperson position will not yield positive results.
Shayi is the comrade who is being closed out so that he won’t contest for the top position which seem like it has already been reserved for Cyril Ramaphosa’s ally, Stan Mathabatha.
Mathabatha is seeking a third term and critics feel this is becoming to look more like dictatorship in the ANC Limpopo province, as Mathabatha is trying to block other comrades from competing for his position.
Shayi was endorsed to contest for the ANC provincial chairperson position by ANC Mopani Regional General Council but has since come under heavy criticism in what looks an attempt to halt his campaign.
ANC Peter Mokaba regional chairperson John Mpe says in the Mopani region, the candidate they’re lobbying for, is Basikopo Makamu to retain his position as the provincial deputy secretary ahead of the party’s 10th elective conference in June.
The ANC heavyweight, John Mpe says the region will not turn against Makamu because he stood by ANC provincial deputy chairperson Florence Radzilani and provincial Treasurer Danny Msiza when they were affected by the step aside resolution following their alleged involvement in the VBS Mutual Bank looting.
What is happening in Limpopo province shows that the CR17 faction is sanitising those with criminal records and them to contest for top positions, while the RET comrades are being demonised.
