Every day, as technology advances, we see new gadgets that make our lives easier. However, there is a downside in that cyber criminals are able to improve their methods and strategies by leveraging technical advancements.
So, here are three things to keep an eye out for before placing your ATM cards into any machine.
– A SKIMMER ATTACHED TO THE CARD READER OF THE ATM:
It’s critical to inspect any ATM for skimmer attachments whenever you visit one. A skimmer is a device that is fitted to the card reader in an ATM for those who are unfamiliar.
The information on the magnetic stripe of a card can be captured by this skimmer. I’m sure you’re aware of the ramifications, as these con artists can utilize your personal information to steal from you.
– AN ATM WITH A PLASTIC OVERLAY ATTACHED TO THE INPUT BUTTONS:
Aside from the skimmer described above, there is another form of skimmer that can be added to an ATM’s input buttons.
This plastic overlay has the ability to grab the PIN information of unsuspecting users as they are entering it into the machine.
As a result, it’s critical to check for any plastic overlay before using any ATM.
– THE ATM MACHINE HAS A CAMERA DEVICE ATTACHED TO IT:
Last but not least, another type of skimmer used by criminals is camera devices installed in strategic locations on ATMs.
As consumers insert their card into the card reader and enter their card PIN, the cameras may capture everything that happens.
NOTE: If you see one of these skimmers, don’t use that ATM.

It’s also a good idea to notify the bank authorities so that additional naïve users are warned before they become victims.
