Depression is a hot topic in South Africa especially after the news of Rikhado Muziwendlovu Makhado’s passing.
The hip hop legend allegedly committed suicide and was found hanging by his friends.
“Men suffering from depression are four times more likely to take their own lives than women, so it’s vital to seek help with depression before feelings of despair become feelings of suicide. Feeling depressed isn’t a sign of weakness and you don’t have to tough it out. #RickyRick”.
As the old saying goes, men don’t cry. However, in today’s world that doesn’t seem to work anymore.
“Depression in men gets overlooked, Instead, we tend to focus on the physical symptoms that often accompany male depression, such as pains, headaches, difficulty sleeping. This can result in the underlying depression going untreated, which can have serious consequences. #RickyRick”.
With so many cases of men taking their lives because of depression, it’s time for men to start crying and speaking out on all issues affecting them.
“As men, we think of ourselves as strong. When we feel hopeless or overwhelmed by despair we often deny it but depression is a common problem that affects many of us at some point in our lives, not a sign of emotional weakness or a failing of masculinity. #RickyRick” – @AdvoBarryRoux.
