No, South Africans didn’t take ‘the wrong vaccine’ — Government rubbishes ‘fake news’

TimesLiveThe piece, which has been circulated across numerous social media networks in the shape of a news story, says that health minister Dr Joe Phaahla had dropped the “bombshell” lately in light of the irregular procurement of the Heberon interferon Alpha-2B Covid-19 medication from Cuba. The medication was not provided to South Africans. The SA government tweeted an image of the post with a warning that it was “fake news”.

“The information is bogus. Be careful and constantly be attentive to recognize phony news,” it warned.

The repatriation of the interferon to Cuba followed orders and recommendations by a ministerial task force and the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority.

“The SANDF has obliged and delivered the drugs back to Cuba. We are writing to Sahpra and the auditor-general as the interested parties that we believed we should be re-engaged after we complied,” SANDF head Gen Rudzani Maphwanya told parliament last month.
