EWNPremier David Makhura has praised law enforcement for apprehending members of a gang, two of whom are police officers, who were suspected of being engaged in robberies across the province. The arrests were made by the Gauteng police, who were applauded by Makhura.
Last Monday, two members of the Crime Intelligence Unit were taken into custody and shackled. Together with their alleged collaborators, they were detained on accusations that included conspiracy to commit armed robbery, attempted murder, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, possession of the stolen property, and impersonation of a police officer.
The mayor of Rosettenville has also complimented police officers for apprehending eight offenders in the city on Monday. Eight of their accused collaborators were murdered in a gunfight with police, and four police officers were taken to the hospital and are healing there as of Tuesday morning.
Despite the fact that crime is widespread across Gauteng, Makhura released a statement on Tuesday declaring that criminals have no place in this province.
