Yesterday people gathered at Mokopane in Limpopo to bid farewell and lay Lebogang Monene to rest. She was a thirty years old assistant nurse at Tembisa hospital. She was killed last week on wednesday by her partner. It was reported that the man who is a police officer entered the hospital premises using a state vehicle and immediately called for her. It was just few minutes after she got in for work. When she went to the parking lot the police officer fired shots at her and later turned the gun to himself.
Sadly she passed away at the scene and he was taken to Milpark hospital where he is at a critical condition. It was revealed that the shooting is result of domestic problems. It turns out that she wanted out of the relationship and was no longer living with the him due to his abuse. Her family revealed that their relationship was really toxic and he used to say it that he would kill her. What looked as a joke turned to be a reality. Case of domestic abuse agaisnt the officer was opened but sadly she passed away before justice could be served.
It was revealed that it was not for the time the man came to her work place to harass her. Her family revealed how devastated they are by her passing as they were not ready to say goodbye so soon . She has been remembered as a peaceful and loving woman who accommodated everyone in her life. Hundreds of people gathered yesterday to lay her to rest. It broke the hearts of many people seeing her colleagues breaking down at her funeral. Indeed death is really painful and one can never be ready enough for death.
The family has revealed that they are more furious as they did not see anyone from the police department at the funeral. She was shot and killed by a police officer so it could have been better to avail themselves to the funeral and show support to the family. Not showing up at the funeral showed that they are supporting what the police officer did. The department should have sent people to show that they do not support what he did but they didn’t. This is why people are so angry and revealed that this is a disrespect to the family.
Opinion : The fact that no one from the police department was at the funeral shows how police are failing the people. It’s sad to see women losing their lives in the hands of abusive men with nothing being done. What have women done to deserve this?. The police department should be punished for this.
