Depression is characterized by a prolonged sense of melancholy and a lack of interest in previously enjoyed activities. It’s not like the normal ups and downs of emotions that everyone encounters on a daily basis. Devastating life circumstances, such as the death of a loved one or the termination of one’s employment, can result in depression. Doctors, on the other hand, only think that grieving is a sign of depression if it lasts for a long time.
Mental illness is not a one-time occurrence. Symptoms linger for at least two weeks during each episode. Depression can endure for weeks, months, or even years at a time. People are going through different painful things out there. When you see someone who seems to be having a rough time, give them a hug and lend them an ear, because some have no one to talk to and they die in silence. When they say depression is real and can kill, believe them. One of the things that leads to depression is that, as black people, when someone tells us their problems, we make fun of them and even call them dramatic. This is one of the things that makes people die in silence.
Following all that, a lady who people believe is depressed does the most unthinkable. She took a photo of herself and posted it on Facebook before she hanged herself. This lady has been complaining and posting sad statues on Facebook, saying that her life is not going well and there are people who want her head. People didn’t take her seriously until she decided to post the photo below and a goodbye message saying she’s going to heaven.
After seeing this photo, many people shared it so that those who stayed close to her could rush to stop her before she died. It was fortunate that someone got there in time and found her before she died. After some hours, the post was deleted to show that she’s okay. See some of the comments from social media below.
Opinion
People are going through the most, but taking our lives is never a solution. It is better to talk about whatever is not right and solve it, because the decision to end your life will only bring more problems instead. To everyone who is going through difficulty out there, the night comes and goes, just like the night your problems will go away too.
